GOLDEN SPREAD EMMAUS COMMUNITY UPDATE:

Update from the Golden Spread Community Spiritual Director:

Greetings to the Golden Spread Emmaus community and friends in the name of our lord Jesus Christ.

I pray that you all are doing ok after a difficult year.  We have all been shut down and put down this last year by the attack of the enemy.  Some have suffered much loss.  I know we have had our share of trouble.  Job 5:7 tells us that man is born into trouble as the sparks fly upward.  And in this world Jesus said,  "in this world you will have tribulations."  I have been praying for you and the Emmaus community.  The Lord has not forgotten us and His Word tells us that He will never leave us or forsake us.  I'm reminded of Elijah the prophet.  Times were hard for him.  He was in the middle of a drought and food was scarce.  But he trusted the Lord.  When you see the word trust what do you think of?  To Trust something or someone means that you can depend on them and take them at their word.  Jesus said follow me. To follow Him means we can trust and depend on Him no matter what it looks like.  Scripture tells us that it is impossible to please God without faith: for he that comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that seek diligently seek Him.

Elijah trusted God and yet we have a better covenant. Elijah couldn't see God with his natural eyes.  We have Jesus we can look to.  Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the Father.  Elijah was told to go to the brook Cherith and there he would feed him.  The Lord told him he can drink of the brook and that the ravens would feed him.  How unlikely is it that a scavenger would feed you?  But Elijah was obedient and and the Lord took care of him.  Then the brook dried up and Elijah was told to go Zarephath and there a widow would feed him.  Elijah didn't know the widow but again he was obedient.  He saw a woman picking up sticks and said to her would you give me something to eat.  Her reply was sir I have just a little meal and oil, I'm going to bake a little cake and my son and I will eat and then we shall die.  Elijah told her if she would feed him that the oil and meal would last through the drought and she wouldn't die.  The widow was obedient and fed Elijah first, and guess what? the meal and the oil sustained her.  I sometimes get discouraged but when I am obedient the Lord always make a way.  Our  obedience is a reflection of our faith.  Without faith it is impossible to please God.

This last year and even now many of us have been hurting and stretched to the limit.  Emmaus has be hit hard but we will recover.  We have all been blessed by Emmaus and I want to encourage you to get back involved once again.  Emmaus is such a wonderful tool that the Lord uses to get our fire going again or in some cases start a new fire where there wasn't one before.  the Bible tells us to not forsake the gathering of the brothers and sisters as with some is the case and in these last days it is important to engage in person with other believers and like minded people.  This is being obedient to the Word of God.  We can trust Him.  There will be a women's walk this February please make plans to come and support it.  We all need to be in fellowship with one another and in so doing we are trusting the Lord.  He wants to meet with us and offer up our worship to Him.  Come and let us worship the LORD and offer up our praise to Him.

In Christ's love,
Pastor Jim Watkins
